Utah Once-in-a-Lifetime Draw Odds
Moose, bison, bighorn sheep and mountain goat. These permits use bonus points, and you can hold each species only once.
In the 2026 Utah draw, 65,446 resident applications went to 79 once-in-a-lifetime hunts for 438 resident permits, about 149.4 applications per permit (Utah DWR data). The longest resident odds were Antelope Island rifle (BI6500) at 1 in 1669.5; the best were Book Cliffs Little Creek/South, cow only rifle (BI6529) at 1 in 13.8.

Questions
Which Utah hunts are once-in-a-lifetime?
Bull moose, bison, Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, desert bighorn sheep and mountain goat, per the 2026 DWR guidebook. Once you obtain one of these permits, you may not apply for that species again in the drawing. You can still apply for the other once-in-a-lifetime species.
Can I apply for once-in-a-lifetime and limited-entry in the same year?
Residents may apply for one limited-entry and one once-in-a-lifetime species (a permit or a bonus point for each). Nonresidents may apply for all limited-entry and once-in-a-lifetime species. Everyone can draw only one limited-entry or once-in-a-lifetime permit a year, and limited-entry permits are drawn first (2026 DWR guidebook).
Can I apply as a group for once-in-a-lifetime hunts?
No. The 2026 guidebook says group applications are not accepted for once-in-a-lifetime hunts.
